UPDATE (4/3/25): At an informational meeting held at Vichy Elementary on Wednesday, April 2, Superintendent Dr. Rosanna Mucetti shared that NVUSD plans to formally recommend Vichy Elementary as the district’s next TK–8 school, with sixth grade beginning as early as the 2025–26 school year.
Vichy Elementary is uniquely well-suited for this transition, as it currently meets every criterion outlined by the district for TK–8 expansion:
- Vichy has existing, underutilized classroom space, eliminating the need for millions of dollars of new construction.
- The site’s declining enrollment and current program structure allow for a smooth, disruption-free expansion.
- There is strong community interest, with 45 families already indicating serious intent to enroll in sixth grade for the 2025–26 school year.
- Vichy’s east Napa location fills a geographic gap, complementing existing TK–8 campuses at Shearer (downtown) and Browns Valley (west Napa) to broaden access across the district.
To move forward, the district has set a goal of at least 55 interested students to form two viable sixth-grade classrooms. We have received strong interest and commitments from at least 45 families and are looking to encourage at least ten additional 5th grade families to express their interest by May 1 by contacting the NVUSD Enrollment Center at 707-253-3435 or via email at enrollment@nvusd.org.
Importantly, families exploring this option will NOT lose their current middle school placements by expressing interest in Vichy. The district has made it clear that interest forms are non-binding and help assess viability only.
We’ll continue to use this page as one of the ways to communicate the latest developments as this progresses. Here’s a brief overview of what we know.

When will this happen?
If the District determines that this model is feasible at Vichy, the first 6th grade class at Vichy would be 2025-26, which directly impacts this year’s 5th graders.
What about the facilities? How will that work?
Before NVUSD can review the facilities, we have to demonstrate the demand for this model. Once that has been established, the next course of action is to examine curriculum. The District will apply the model currently in place at Browns Valley and Shearer to see how that would work at Vichy and then facilities would be addresses.
Is the same curriculum offered at TK-8 and comprehensive (Redwood, Silverado & Unidos) middle schools?
The same curricular resources are used at the TK-8 schools and the comprehensive middle schools for core classes (ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies). The comprehensive middle schools offer additional classes that the TK-8 schools do not offer, such as music. The elective/exploratory classes may be different between comprehensive middle schools and TK-8 schools based on teacher credentialing and background and student interest.
What after-school, extracurricular programs are offered at comprehensive middle schools versus the TK-8 sites?
Middle School After School Programs
- NCOE or Boys and Girls Club after school programs at all middle schools
- Middle school after school athletics program
TK-8 After School Programs
- Browns Valley: Boys and Girls Club, After School Enrichment (fee-based and run through the BV parent club)
- Shearer: Cool School Program, Youth Leadership Academy
*6th-8th grade students at both BV and SH are able to access the middle schools sports programs at their middle school of residence. BV and SH are both schools of choice.
Do the TK-8 parent clubs subsidize any programs or activities? If so, what are they?
The TK-8 parent clubs fund field trips, assemblies, teacher resources, STEAM room and other projects that any typical parent club would fund. Neither the Browns Valley nor the Shearer parent clubs are subsidizing any TK-8 specific programming.
